Firebirds Behind the Flames (Part 3)
Introducing...me?
Happy Monday! Today is Part 3 of our series, Firebirds Behind the Flames. For those new to Firebird Focus (and there are plenty this week), Firebirds Behind the Flames is our series where we introduce you to the people who make the magic happen behind the scenes. Last week was Part 1, where I introduced Petey Dorris, the voice of the Firebirds. Last week was Part 2, where I introduced Chris Smith, our chief statistician. Today, I’ll be introducing myself, and what I do for the Firebirds.
The cover of my book, Overcoming Adversity: The 2010 NBA All-Stars
As most of you know, my name is Tex. I’ve been working with the Firebirds for four years, and have loved my time here. I started as a journalist on the team website, interviewing players and doing game recaps. My journalism endeavors started even earlier than the Firebirds; I’d been interested in sports media since I was very young and published a book on basketball last year: Overcoming Adversity: The 2010 NBA All-Stars. The book is available at just about every online bookstore, including Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
As much as I love journalism, however, my role quickly evolved into more.
Just writing wasn’t enough; soon, I began managing some of the team’s social media accounts (namely YouTube and X). I’ve also expanded our online presence, launching the Firebirds podcast (The Raleigh Firebirds Show) and creating this newsletter, Firebird Focus. The newsletter has been an incredible success, keeping thousands of Firebird fans all across the Triangle updated on team news.
Last year, I also began working in ticket sales and corporate sponsorships. Having top-tier partners from all across the Triangle enables us to maintain a high-level product on the court, and sold-out games make the atmosphere so much better!
The new thing I’ve taken on this year? I’m working to put together a top class of 2025 interns for the Firebirds. With an expanding team, the Firebirds will be able to accomplish so much more, meaning even more content for you at the highest quality.
That’s all for me, but there’s one other important thing I want to share with you. Tomorrow, there’s a short documentary about the Firebirds being released on our YouTube Channel. You REALLY don’t want to miss it; it’s great stuff. If you don’t catch it over the weekend, I’ll put the link in Monday’s Firebird Focus.
Until then,
-Tex
