Firebirds Behind the Flames
It's time to meet the people that make the magic happen!
Good morning! Today, Firebird Focus will begin a new series that will last through October: Firebirds Behind the Flames. It’s difficult to miss the incredible talent on the court whenever the Firebirds compete, leading the organization to victory. However, less well-known are the people behind the scenes that make it possible for the Firebirds to be successful. Throughout the series, you’ll be introduced to key Firebirds personnel who have impacted the organization for years.
But, before we begin, a word from today’s sponsor:

Now, it’s time to meet Petey Dorris!

If you’ve watched a Firebirds livestream at any point over the last few years, then you’ve heard the voice of Petey Dorris. Petey (AKA Petey from the Streets) is the Firebirds’ head of broadcasting operations and play-by-play commentary. Together, he and Craig Green combine for all the amazing analysis and commentary heard when watching a Firebirds game at home.
Petey’s been working with the Firebirds for five years and has his roots in the Triangle area. He holds a degree in broadcast journalism from North Carolina Central University and covered high school sports for a radio station in Arizona before coming to the Firebirds.
Petey may have spent 11 years broadcasting, but he has another love he’s spent 20 years with: hair. Petey doubles as a talented barber, co-owning Style Street Barber in Apex. He’s worked with every kind of hair you can imagine, and is great at what he does. If you’re in Apex, need a haircut, and want to talk sports, Petey’s chair is a great place to stop!
Thanks for tuning in to this issue of Firebird Focus! I’ll be back on Friday with our next Firebird behind the flames.
Until then,
