What's New With the Firebirds
Happy Firebirds Friday!
Happy Firebirds Friday! Today, I’ll be sharing the latest news about the Firebirds, because trust me: a lot is going on. Topics range from the Firebirds’ latest initiatives on financial literacy to updates on training camp spots. But, before we begin, a word from our sponsor:

Picture of the Day
Today’s picture of the day is of Darius Leonard and Wade Harris. Darius is the spirit of the Firebirds, having played for the team ever since their inaugural season. He’s committed five seasons to this organization, and while he spent most of last season injured, he still was a positive presence around the team. Here, he’s hoisting the Eastern Conference Championship trophy that the Firebirds earned last year. We may not have won the coveted Lillie, but we didn’t end the season without any hardware!
First Mini Camp Invite Announced
One of the first non-returning players who’s been invited to training camp has been announced! Omar Jabbi is an incredible guard who’s spent time playing professionally for the North Carolina Capitals of the ECBL. Just last season, he was named the ECBL South Guard of the Year and dropped a career-high 55 points 🤯
It’s safe to say Jabbi is a proven talent in semi-pro basketball. He’s been invited to both Firebirds mini-camp and training camp in February of 2025. It’ll be very exciting to watch him compete for a roster spot, and we wish him the best of luck!
Sponsor Announced for Financial Literacy Night
The Firebirds have several incredible sponsors, who make it possible to field such a competitive basketball team. However, the team is also working on having certain organizations sponsor games that align with their company purpose. For our Business/Entrepreneurial & Financial Literacy Night, The World Changers will be sponsoring the game! The World Changers are financial consultants, making them the ideal sponsor for this game.
That’s not all though! The Firebirds will be partnering with other organizations that align with different game themes—you’ll be hearing plenty about our STEM game. Speaking of which:
Tech Saturday for Small Businesses
On Saturday, October 12th, Wake Tech is holding a conference for small businesses, serving as a networking opportunity, a chance to compare perspectives with others, and learn more about hot topics such as AI. There are so many opportunities to learn more about STEM subjects in the triangle, and the Firebirds are making sure to highlight as many of them as possible. It’s completely free to register, so if you’re interested, don’t wait!
That’s all for this edition of Firebird Focus. I’ll talk to you on Monday :)
Until then,
