Weekend Recap: Firebirds Go 2-0

If you checked your email this weekend, you likely saw a few Firebird Focus messages from me, which shouldâve told you something unusual happened (I never send messages over the weekend). We were slated to play the Jacksonville 95ers on Saturday; however, they had some travel issues and couldnât drive up to Raleigh. They forfeited the game because they could not play us, meaning the Firebirds earned another win.
Sundayâs matchup against the Buccaneers was an interesting one. Travel delays also hit Savannah, although eventually, they showed up, and the game commenced. The game was a clear Firebirds win from the start; Savannah only fielded seven players, and their energy resembled a scrimmage, not a high-pressure TBL contest. The Firebirds were firing on all cylinders from three, too: Kenny Collins nailed a mind-boggling 10 threes, while both Julian Gamble and Dreko Palmer finished the game with triple-doubles. Mason Harrell returned after completing his season overseas, and he also dominated. Overall, it was a spectacular performance from the Firebirds that resulted in a 162-110 victory.
Top performers:
Dreko Palmer: 16 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 57.1% from 3ď¸âŁ
Kenny Collins: 32 points, 10 made 3ď¸âŁâs, 52.6% from 3ď¸âŁ
Julian Gamble: 27 points, 10 rebounds, 15 assists
DJ Thomas: 19 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals
Mason Harrell: 17 points, 17 rebounds, 4 blocks
Our last regular-season game is away on Friday against the Frederick Flying Cows. Theyâre one of the best teams in the league, and playing them will be an excellent test for the playoffs (since weâll likely face them in the conference championship).

Partner Spotlight: Pit Barbecue

A huge shoutout to our amazing sponsor, The Pit Authentic Barbecue, for hosting us for dinner last week! As we prepared for three big games last week, we canât thank them enough for their hospitality and delicious food.
Our team loves starting the meal with their famous hushpuppiesâtheyâre simply irresistible! Of course, the fan favorite is the mouthwatering barbecue. đ
The players couldnât get enough of the Pit Sampler, a perfect mix of smoked barbecue wings, deviled eggs, BBQ soul rolls, and cheese balls for only $17.99! Itâs some of the best food in the city. And donât forget to try the macaroni and cheese, one of our top side dish picks!
We encourage all our fans to visit The Pit Authentic Barbecue at 328 West Davie St., Raleigh, NC. Letâs show them our support!
