The Undefeated Streak Keeps Continuing!

6-0

I’ve spent the last week or so talking about how the Firebirds are one of the best teams in The Basketball League, as the team got off to an undefeated start. Today, I’m happy to announce that the streak keeps growing!

Last Friday, the Firebirds played the West Virginia Grind, and it was great! We had a solid atmosphere/crowd and won 137-125. Dreko Palmer absolutely went off this game, torching the Grind for 40 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. He couldn’t be stopped from behind the arc, as he had eight threes. Tre Gray also played well, with 21 points on 58% shooting from the field.

Palmer’s 40-point outburst solidified him as a TBL All-Star, as the league just announced selections this past weekend. This marks Palmer’s third season in a row that he’s been an All-Star, highlighting his continued dominance.

As fun as this game was, the weekend presented a new challenge the Firebirds had yet to face: an away game. Sure, the Firebirds were 5-0 so far, but all of the team’s games had been at home. How would the team fair on the road, a place where the majority of losses have come in the past two years?

Taking on the Coastal Georgia Buccaneers, the Firebirds’ dominance didn’t end once they left Word of God Christian Academy. Even without Ahmad Abdullah, Darius Leonard, and Daequon Antoine (ankle injury), the Firebirds still won, defeating the Buccaneers 104-95. The great thing about this year’s team compared to last year is how deep we are; even if we’re missing certain guys on any given night, others can step up and fill that role. Gray scored 24 points against the Buccaneers on 56% shooting from the field and 60% from three, while Shaq Dance and William Vedder each had 19.

The Firebirds’ next games are also on the road, with two games in Huntsville against the Rocket City Flight on April 6th and 7th. Beating a team twice in a row is tricky, but if anyone can do it, it’s this Firebirds team.

The weekend after we play the Flight, however, we have another home game! On Saturday, April 13th, the Firebirds are playing the Jacksonville 95ers. Make sure you buy tickets to the game on the 13th, and support one of the best teams in the TBL!
