Happy Wednesday! It’s a good time to be a Firebirds fan; our record is 7-2, second in our division behind the Tampa Bay Titans (7-1). Two road games against them this weekend will help settle the score.

Congratulations to the University of Florida! 🐊

If you didn’t see Monday evening, the University of Florida’s men’s basketball team defeated the University of Houston in the 2024 NCAA Championship. The game lived up to the hype of March Madness, as Florida found themselves down by double digits early, but pulled off the improbable comeback and three-point victory.

While this is a big moment in the sports world, you may be wondering: how is this relevant to the Firebirds? Well, it’s relevant because Wade Harris (our team market owner) is a Florida alum. He’s not just an alum of the school, however: he played for the Gators. That’s right, Wade played college basketball for the Gators. Given the bond that Florida alumni share with their school, this is a big deal for Wade and all former Florida basketball players. Our congratulations go out to the team and program for a successful season!

Firebirds Mentoring Program at Dillard Drive 🎓

We’ve continued having awesome events like these as part of our mentoring program

We’re proud to announce continued success with our mentoring program at Dillard Drive Middle School. The Firebirds have been working at the school since the start of the 2024-25 school year, meeting with the mentees twice a month at school and once a month for some off-campus activity. Currently, we have 64 boys signed up, with an average of 47 boys for on-campus meetings and 14 for off-campus meetings (transportation issues play a role in this).

We have events planned for the rest of the school year on April 19th, April 30th, May 7th, May 28th, and one other day in May that is TBD. Two of these events will be off-campus, with one being a tour of the MLK statue downtown, and the other being a basketball pizza party! We look forward to seeing the type of impact this level of engagement will have on our young men.
