Recapping our Weekend in Florida

Spoiler: It went pretty well

Happy Monday! As I mentioned in Friday’s edition, the Firebirds had three road games this weekend in Florida, taking on the Tampa Bay Titans and Jacksonville 95ers. I’m happy to announce that we went 2-1, and below, I’ll recap how each game went:

Table of Contents

Firebirds Drop One to the Titans

Friday night was not great for the Firebirds…in fact, it was historically bad. The Firebirds faced off against the Tampa Bay Titans and lost 109-142. The 33-point loss is the worst in our franchise’s history.

Now’s not the time to make excuses, though. With two more games this weekend, the team decided to learn from the experience and use it as motivation when facing off against the Titans on Saturday.

Firebirds Win Second Game in Double Header

Fortunately, the Firebirds would settle the score against Tampa Bay, defeating the Titans 127-116 on Saturday evening. In this game, the second quarter saw the Firebirds take a commanding lead, and hold onto it from there. Dreko Palmer and Julian Gamble were the stars of this game; Palmer finished with 31 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals while Gamble had 26 points and drew eight fouls from the Titans players.

This win makes us 2-2 in our season series against the Titans. While the first two games were much closer, these last two games have each seen double-digit margins of victory. This truly is one of the best rivalries in The Basketball League, as we’re only half a game behind them in the South Atlantic Division standings! Make sure to catch them the next time we play them, on May 9th at St. Augustine’s University.

Firebirds Take Down 95ers (Again)

In a plot that seems as old as time, the Firebirds defeated the 95ers by a narrowly close margin. The game was close throughout, with both teams leading at various points. However, the Firebirds would win the game by six points, 120-114. This marks the fourth time the Firebirds and 95ers have faced off, and the fourth time that we’ve barely won. The 95ers did break through and win their first game (destroying Savannah by 38 points), which shows that they can beat any team on any given day.

After going 2-1 on the weekend, the Firebirds record now sits at 9-3.
