Recapping Our Combine
Pretty Eventful Stuff
Happy Wednesday! As promised on Monday, today I’ll tell you a little bit about the combine we hosted this past weekend:
Above is a picture of our team market owner Wade with David Magley, president of The Basketball League. Note the Raleigh Firebirds merch he’s wearing 👀
The combine this weekend was very insightful for the Firebirds. It consisted of 15 players who came together to compete for a contract, either with the Firebirds or another TBL team. These combines are a lot smaller than the league’s main combine that happens right before the TBL Draft; instead of hundreds of players being evaluated by dozens of teams and scouts, these combines are a more intimate setting, allowing the coaches and scouts in attendance to really become familiar with a player’s game.
Two players really stood out above the rest of the 15. The first was Joseph Carter, a 6’7” small forward from Delaware State University. He can defend all positions 1 through 4 and is a strong, athletic player. Based on his performance this weekend, he earned a spot in our upcoming January mini-camp.

The other standout was 6’9” JaQuarrius Perry. Perry played at Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Durham in high school, so he’s local to the area. Most recently, he played professionally for the Greensboro Cobras of the Tobacco Road Basketball League. He will also be at our January mini-camp, battling for a spot in our February training camp and final roster.
Triangle Family Services

We’re highlighting Triangle Family Services as a sponsor in today’s Firebird Focus. This organization is one of our most impactful sponsors in the community, helping more than 5,000 low-income families. Its mission statement is “Building a stronger community by strengthening the family,” and that’s exactly what they do.
Their programs focus on family safety, financial stability, and mental health. They really do it all, and are one of the most positive forces in North Carolina working to help families with all different kinds of needs. If you or someone you know could benefit from their services, please don’t hesitate to reach out to them.
Pre-Season Documentary Coming Soon!
Some new content is in the works for you! As you may remember, we released a short documentary of last season, produced, filmed, and edited by Ashyln Rhyne. However, we have a 2025 pre-season documentary in the works, and you aren’t going to want to miss it! It features all the behinds-the-scenes action of the Firebirds, and all sorts of people you wouldn’t expect jump in on the action.
That’s all for today. I’ll talk to you on Friday
Until then,
-Tex
