Sports Convention Recap

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the NC Sports Convention in Wendell this weekend! It was a blast, and we enjoyed seeing current Firebird Fans (like UNC basketball legend Phil Ford) while making new ones.

Cole and I enjoyed meeting everyone who stopped by the table. And to everyone who was asking where Wade and Chris were…scroll down, and you’ll see the action they were witnessing up close in Florida:

Win on Saturday 😤

This weekend, the Firebirds traveled to Jacksonville to take on the 95ers. The matchup didn’t disappoint. The game stayed close throughout, with the 95ers up five at halftime and the game tied at 106 after three quarters. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle, as both teams scored 15 and 16 points, respectively. However, the Firebirds came out on top, thanks to a last-second shot from Ahmad Abdullah. With ice in his veins, the point guard sized up his opponent, drove into the lane, faked, and then hit a leaning mid-range shot to win the game. The final score was 132-131.

After that road win, the Firebirds’ record now stands at an impressive 13-3. They’ll have a chance to officially claim the divisional title this Friday, when the Tampa Bay Titans come to town. It’ll be must-watch basketball, and the fifth installment of one of the league’s fiercest rivalries. Get your tickets here!

League Power Rankings

Today, I’m excited to bring you the first rendition of the TBL power rankings! Created by the league, these rankings show the relative strength of every team across the league and country. Among those teams, you can find our divisional rivals: the Tampa Bay Titans (10th), Savannah Bucaneers (26th), and Jacksonville 95ers (27th).

While Savannah and Jacksonville may not be ranked very high, so many of our games against them this year have been closely contested (just like this weekend!). It goes to show how deep and full of talent The Basketball League truly is.

As you can see, the Firebirds are currently ranked 8th, which is pretty high. However, we’re not happy settling for 8th. Some of the very notable teams ahead of us are the Frederick Flying Cows (who have an impressive 17-0 record), the Potawatomi Fire (14-1, two-time defending TBL champs), and the New York Phoenix (also 14-1). If the Firebirds defeat the Titans this weekend, however, you can certainly expect us to be higher on the next round of power rankings.

Make sure to stay tuned for Wednesday’s edition, as we have some exciting news coming up!

Until then,

-Tex
