Documentary
A quick update before we get into weekend events…remember that Firebirds documentary I mentioned a week or two ago? It’s finally up on our YouTube page! Make sure you go check out “Poetry in Motion” on our YouTube Channel, or watch it linked below here. It’s about ten minutes, and masterfully done (shoutout to Ashyln Rhyne!)
Firebirds Panel at Wendel Middle School
Our meet and greet may have been the weekend's highlight, but on Friday, we did something else super cool. Members of the Firebirds front office traveled to Wendell Middle School to speak with students interested in a career in athletics. While some middle schoolers were interested in marketing or sports management, most wanted to be professional athletes. That’s why we brought Troymaine, a prospective Firebirds player from Mississippi.
Troymaine will be on our training camp roster, competing for one of the final 12 spots, and he explained to the kids the skills needed to succeed as a professional athlete. Needless to say, the panel was quite the hit.
Firebirds Meet and Greet
Our November 9th meet and greet happened this past Saturday, and it was a huge success! Around 80 people came out to meet Firebirds players, partners, and coaches for a great evening. With various media and content creators in attendance, sponsors and fans of the team had avenues to tell their stories, all of which you’ll be seeing shortly.
There was also a really cool backdrop for pictures. I got this one of Wade holding up the CEO of the Year Award given to him by the TBL. In a league with over 40 teams and 40 CEOs, this is a huge accomplishment. Congrats Wade!
Overall, this event was a 10/10. There will be lots of pictures and videos coming soon, and if you couldn’t make it to the meet and greet, I hope you’ll be at the next Firebirds event.
Dreko Palmer’s Dominance Continues in China
As you probably know, many of the Firebirds’ top players continue to play basketball professionally during the TBL offseason. To do this, many players travel overseas, for continued exposure and larger contracts. The latest Firebird who’s been killing it overseas is Dreko Palmer, our three-time TBL All-Star. I had a chance to catch up with Palmer this weekend and talk about his experience in China. It was great to hear from him and eye-opening to learn about how different basketball is overseas. Mini Camp (Updates Soon)
In all the noise, it’s crazy to think that the Firebirds had their first mini-camp this weekend! It was a great success, but this issue of Firebird Focus is already long enough. On Friday, Wade will stop by the Focus to give us the rundown on mini-camp. Stay tuned for that!
Until then,
