How Pro Hoopers are Giving Back to the Firebirds

And What It Means to Us

Most Firebirds don’t stick with the team for more than a season or two. There are exceptions, like Darius Leonard, Kenny Collins, and Desmond Jackson, but for most, the Firebirds are a stepping stone to other American teams or professional contracts overseas. However, the Firebird roots remain strong within basketball players. They appreciate the team’s mission, and even some guys who never played for the team are getting involved by paying for kids to attend games. Let’s look at two of those guys:

Table of Contents

Tony Farmer

Tony Farmer used to play for the Firebirds, during the team’s 2021 season. He’s in the middle of a successful career overseas, playing in Puerto Rico among various other countries. Still, he hasn’t forgotten his roots and is still connected with the Firebirds organization. Tony will be paying for Wake County students to attend the Firebirds’ opening night, which just so happens to be our College Night Game.

By paying for these kids to attend the game, not only will they have an amazing experience, but it could also lead to them meeting someone from a college that could be absolutely crucial to them later down the line, such as an admissions officer.

Quincy Miller

Quincy Miller may have never played for the Raleigh Firebirds, but he had an extremely successful basketball career. A star at D1 Baylor University, Miller spent time playing for the Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings, and Detroit Pistons in the NBA. He’s also had an extremely successful overseas career, playing in the EuroLeague, Israel, Germany, Portugal, and the Philippines, to name a few. Miller will also be paying for Wake County students to attend the Firebirds’ first game of the season.

Here’s the dirty little secret though…

You don’t have to be a professional basketball player to sponsor kids to attend Firebirds games. You can do so today, and give kids a life-changing experience. Just reply to this email with “I’m interested,” and you’ll get the information you need on how to sponsor kids.

Now, if you don’t want to sponsor kids, but just want to buy tickets for yourself and your family…tickets are on sale now! It’s officially 2024 and we have our entire schedule released, so there’s no point in waiting any longer!

I have a cool story about one of our former Firebirds on Wednesday, so keep an eye on your inbox for Wednesday morning.

Until then,
