A Training Camp Recap
Firebirds training camp has come and gone! It was extremely competitive, with everyone playing their absolute best to try and earn a spot on the Firebirds roster. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so below I have a few pictures and videos from training camp:
Additionally, we had our final scrimmage of training camp on Saturday, which was a super awesome experience! It was a great preview of what’s to come this year. Here were some of the top performers from both teams:
Team Gold:
Mario Williams: 20 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 80% from three
Omar Jabbi: 17 points, 4 rebounds
Julian Gamble: 22 points, 5 rebounds
Team White:
Dreko Palmer: 16 points, 6 rebounds
Darius Paul: 25 points, 5 rebounds, 56% from three
Keshawn Pegues: 23 points, 5 rebounds
The final roster will be announced later today on social media! We’ll break down the roster on Wednesday, so stay tuned for that.

What the Firebird Interns Were Up To This Weekend

Many of you may have noticed no Friday edition of Firebird Focus. The reason why? I was at DECA’s North Carolina Career Development Conference, along with two other amazing Firebird interns. DECA is a series of competitive events in business, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and tourism/hospitality that high schoolers from all over compete in. There are competitions at the regional, state, and national levels, and this past weekend was the state conference in Greensboro.
The picture above is of myself with two awesome Firebird interns, Shylah and David. Shylah and David both attend Rolesville High School, and all three of us earned proficiency awards in our respective events! It was a super cool experience, and even though we missed the end of training camp, it was well worth it.
A side note: if you’re a Firebird Focus fanatic, you may want to mark your calendar for Monday, April 28th, and Wednesday, April 30th. Because I finished 7th in the state for my event, I qualified for and will be attending DECA Nationals in Florida. This fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) will mean no Firebird Focus on either of those days 😔
