Breaking Down Our Game Themes for March

Plus: Explaining the Rationale Behind a Thursday Game at 11 AM

As you may know, the Firebirds home schedule has been released for 2024! However, what isn’t so often public knowledge is that each game has a theme. The Firebirds are a community-based team, and our games serve as a platform to bring together individuals or groups of people to meet one another or be recognized. Today, I’ll explain all the themes for our March home games.

Breakdown of Game Themes

Game 1: College Day

The theme for our kickoff of the 2024 season is College Day! You may wonder what College Day is, and that’s a great question! College Day is when the Firebirds invite high school students to meet college admissions officers from universities within the area. It’s a great opportunity for all Wake County high school students to watch an exciting game of basketball, and network with admissions officers for colleges they might be applying to soon. Last year, the colleges represented at this game include NC State, Shaw University, UNC Chapel Hill, NC Central University, William Peace University, Wake Tech Community College, St. Augustine University, Durham Tech Community College, Johnston Community College, and Louisburg College. We’re excited to have them return this year, along with some new universities!

Game 2: Health Awareness Night

Yes, the flyer is wrong in that it isn’t First Responders Night, but the date and time are correct!

For this game, the Firebirds want to recognize a matter of health issues that affect all of us, and the people that are working to combat them. Our health focus is centered around Mental Health, M.S. Awareness, Autism Awareness, Heart Health, and Cancer Research, and we use our health game to bring awareness to organizations that support these initiatives. This game is our first evening event of the season, which always has a great turnout! Our opponent will be a returning foe from last year, the Coastal Georgia Buccaneers!

Game 3: Military Appreciation Day

Our third game of the year is our Military Appreciation Day! The Firebirds will use this game to show our support for all who serve our nation. Since the Firebirds like to use games to connect people, we’re inviting ROTC programs of local colleges, the Veteran Administration, the Marines, the Air Force, the Army, the Navy, and the National Guard so that anyone interested in pursuing a military career can make connections and find out what steps they need to take.

Game 4: STEM Day

This game might be the most unique of the entire year! The theme for this game is recognizing and celebrating STEM learners and educators. But, if you looked at the flyer above, you might notice that…this game is on a school day? At 11 AM? Is that a typo?

Nope!

The Firebirds are inviting all Wake County high school students to attend this game as a field trip and are reaching out to school administrators to make this a possibility. Because the Firebirds play at Word of God Christian Academy, we’re going to have students and teachers from Word of God watch the game, and provide the biggest student section the Raleigh Firebirds have ever had! There’s still some work left to bring this idea to fruition but trust me, once it happens, it’s going to be stunning.

Game 5: Sponsors and Season Ticket Holders Night

This theme is always a fun one! For our game against the West Virginia Grind, we will be thanking all of our sponsors and season ticket holders for their amazing support of us. None of what we do would be possible without them! It’s their investment in us that allows us to grow within the Triangle community, give fans a high level of basketball to watch, and lets us keep giving back.

If you feel like you would enjoy the themes or know someone who would, then make sure to head over to our website and buy tickets today!

Thank you for reading, and I’ll see you Friday :)
