Happy Firebirds Friday! It’s game day, which is always the most exciting day of the week! Today, I’m previewing tonight’s matchup, tomorrow’s matchup (because we’re playing tomorrow too), and a cool media thing to be on the lookout for. Let’s jump right in!

Off the Court: What to Know

If you’ve never been to a Firebirds game before, there’s some important stuff you should know before attending. And if you have been to a Firebirds game before…you should still read this, because it’s different from past years. That is, unless you were at last week’s game, in which case you should skip to the next section of the newsletter:

Essential Game-Day Information

  3. Once you see the list of games, click on the first one (our March 14th game, which is Youth Sports Night)

Or, you can click this link to bypass steps 1-3. Do whichever you find more convenient.

Essential Game-Day Reminders

  • Parking is free and plentiful! The later you arrive, the further away it will be from the gym; however, you don’t have to worry about paying

  • Doors to the game open at 6 PM, one (1) hour before tip-off

  • Tickets can be purchased at the door; while we highly recommend buying online in advance, it’s not the only option

  • Your tickets don’t correspond to a certain seat number; you can sit as close to or as far away from the action as you want. The earlier you get to the gym, however, the better spot you’re likely to have. Certain seats will be reserved for groups!

  • There will be concessions for sale!

On the Court: What to Expect

The Firebirds’ two matchups against the Titans today and tomorrow will be games to remember! Coming into this weekend, the Firebirds sit at 2-0 while the Titans sit at 3-0, making them the top two teams in the South Atlantic Division. Since they play each other twice, these teams could stay matched record-wise…or one could pull away, and cement themselves as the best team in the Division.

For the Firebirds side, we’re locked and loaded. If you went to last week’s game, you're familiar with the likes of 6’10” Julian Gamble, three-point TBL champion Daequon Antoine, study point guard Ahmad Abdullah, the electrifying Shaq Dance, and crafty finisher DJ Thomas. This Firebirds team is deeper than it has been in years, and they’re one of the tallest teams in the league.

However, two additions are coming to the Firebirds that the team didn’t have last week. Dreko Palmer—our three-time TBL All-Star—couldn’t play with us last weekend, but now, he’s back. With him at the helm, there’s no doubt the offense will be supercharged.

Lastly, there’s King Goss. You probably haven’t heard of him since he hasn’t played for the Firebirds before, but trust me: after tonight, you’ll know his name. The guard is one of the best three-point shooters in the entire league, and automatic from three. Look for a big game from him.

On Tampa Bay’s side, they have quite a few players who can put up big-time performances. Leading the Titans is Nasir Core. The 6’3” guard is one of the TBL’s brightest, opening up the season with averages of 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. He’s complemented by Justin Blanks, another guard who ranks in the top 10 in three-point percentage. The team is coached by Robert Geier and should be an entertaining matchup to watch.

Coming Up: What Awaits Later This Weekend

The Firebirds always seem to be doing something with the local media, and this weekend is no exception! While typically we’re on the air with The Sports Shop Radio Show, we’re doing something unique this Sunday.

Two days from now, we’ll be on the Story Time Podcast with Shout Crystal! It’s going to be a banger episode, especially since it’ll feature Wade Harris (our team market owner), Chris Lightner (General Manager), Antonio Davis (Head Coach), and Julian Gamble (one of our players).

That’s all for this morning, and we’re looking for to seeing you tonight!

Until then,
