Introducing Another Firebirds Coach

For five years, he's been climing his way to the top

In my last email, I talked about Bob MacKinnon, the Firebirds head coach from last season. However, there’s a coach that I didn’t talk about who’s just as crucial to the success of the Firebirds, and that’s Coach Mitchell Jeffries.

Coach Mitchell “Mitch” Jeffries

Jeffries has been a key part of the Firebirds' success since their inauguration. For the past few years, Jeffries has been an assistant coach for the Firebirds and gained lots of valuable experience. He has great relationships with all the players on the team and has been trained by Bob MacKinnon, Robert Brickey, and DeMarcus Oliver. Brickey, a former Duke University basketball player, was the Firebirds coach during the franchise’s birth, and now coaches for the Fayetteville Stingers. Oliver also formerly coached the Firebirds, until the pandemic hit.

Last year, Coach MacKinnon couldn’t coach the Firebirds for road games, which means that responsibility fell to Jeffries. He was very successful, with the Firebirds finishing 9-3 on the road last year. Jeffries will coach home and away games for the team this year, while MacKinnon will run practices and shooting workouts.

The coaching duo of Jeffries and MacKinnon is one that every other Southeastern Conference team should be scared of for this upcoming year. With the Firebirds’ training camp roster as deep as ever and the incredible coaching for those players, this team is headed for a deep run in the TBL’s playoffs.
