Happy Firebirds Friday! Today, we’ll go a little in-depth about the Firebirds mini-camp last weekend, and direct you to the latest content that you may have missed on Monday:

Firebirds Documentary

You may have seen this on Monday, but I’m putting it again here in case you missed it. The Firebirds have a documentary out from the beginning of their 2024 season! It’s a great watch, and many of you have already tuned in to see it. For those who haven’t, it’s about ten minutes long and linked above.

Mini-Camp Recap

The Firebirds hosted its Fall Festival and mini-camp last weekend, and it was very intense and competitive. In September, the Firebirds had 27 players in mini-camp and only one player was invited to training camp. This mini-camp last weekend had 18 very talented young men, but the three standouts being invited back to training camp are Troymain Crosby, DJ Thomas, and Sal-Bey Young. Crosby played at Alcorn State University (in Mississippi), Thomas played at Shaw University, and Young played at NC Wesleyan.

“These three can really play the game at a high level,” said team market owner Wade Harris. “They have a very good chance of making our final roster.”

Head coach Antonio Davis ran this mini-camp (his first time doing so), and had the following to say:

“Mini-camp was a success. We had an opportunity to evaluate some exciting new faces! The players that attended were highly motivated to prove themselves as professional players.

We selected a few of them to return for another session {mini-camp} in January. This is an exciting time for Firebirds basketball. We are eagerly working toward putting together a championship unit!”

Firebirds players often spend time playing overseas in the offseason. Recently, Dreko Palmer has been killing it in China.

The star of the documentary above, Dreko Palmer, is a three-time TBL All-Star. Like many of the Firebirds’ top players, Dreko is spending his offseason playing basketball overseas. He’s been successful in China, and this article goes into what he’s been up to. It’s a great read!
