Wakaboomee and Raleigh Firebirds Collaboration Plans for 2026 Season!

Wakaboomee and Raleigh Firebirds Announce Partnership to Bring STEM and Robotics to Underserved Youth!

Raleigh, NC — Wakaboomee and the Raleigh Firebirds Professional Men’s Basketball team are proud to announce a new community partnership to deliver hands-on STEM and robotics experiences to children in Wake County who need them most. The multi-event collaboration will combine the excitement of professional basketball with accessible, engaging STEM programming delivered alongside Wake Technical Institute and Wake County Public Schools.

What’s planned
- Game-day presence and STEM promotion: Wakaboomee will be on-site at all 10 Raleigh Firebirds home games this season. At each game, Wakaboomee will support and promote the official game Theme through interactive STEM and robotics activities for families and youth in attendance.
- STEM Day (March 13): Wakaboomee and the Firebirds will co-host STEM Day on March 13th, featuring an 11:00 a.m. professional basketball game in partnership with Wake Technical Institute and Wake County Public Schools. The event will spotlight hands-on robotics demonstrations, student showcases, and opportunities for kids to meet role models in STEM and athletics.
- Annual STEM/Health Fair and 5K (February): The organizations will partner on the existing annual STEM and Health Fair and 5K each February to expand STEM access, add robotics programming, and reach more children and families.
- STEM-focused Basketball Clinic (June): In June, Wakaboomee and the Firebirds will run a STEM-focused basketball clinic that links athletic training with engineering and robotics concepts, helping young athletes see the connection between sports, science, and problem-solving.
- Back-to-School Shoe Drive (August): The partners will hold a back-to-school shoe drive in August to provide new shoes for students in need, helping kids return to school with confidence and the basics they need to succeed.
- Mentoring and workshops at Dillard Drive middle school: As part of Wake County Public Schools’ mentoring program at Dillard Drive middle school, Wakaboomee and the Firebirds will deliver four dedicated STEM and robotics workshops for boys enrolled in the program, providing sustained hands-on learning and mentorship.

Why this partnership matters
- Expanding access: Many children in our community lack access to quality STEM and robotics programs. Bringing these opportunities into schools, community programs, and family events helps close that gap.
- Inspiring future careers: Early, engaging exposure to STEM can spark interest that leads to further education and careers in high-demand fields — strengthening the local talent pipeline.
- Connecting sports and STEM: By pairing professional athletics with STEM learning, the program reaches youth where they are and demonstrates that science, technology, and teamwork are part of success on and off the court.
- Measurable community impact: Working directly with Wake County Public Schools and Wake Technical Institute ensures programming is aligned with educational needs and able to reach students who will benefit most.
- Brand alignment and visibility for supporters: Sponsors and donors benefit from visible, community-centered recognition across games, events, and marketing — and from the goodwill generated by meaningful local impact.

Why sponsor or donate
Supporting this partnership is an effective way to invest in the community and the next generation:
- Amplified reach: Your support helps bring STEM and robotics to hundreds of children across multiple high-visibility events (games, fairs, clinics, and school workshops).
- Demonstrated return: Sponsors gain exposure at Firebirds home games, community events, and program materials — and can receive impact reports showing the number of youth served and workshops delivered.
- Talent development: Contributors help build the future workforce by creating early interest in STEM pathways, particularly among underrepresented groups.
- Employee and stakeholder engagement: Partner opportunities for volunteer participation, team-building experiences at events, and employee engagement in mentoring or clinics.
- Tax-deductible impact: Donations to qualifying nonprofit partners or program funds may be tax-deductible and demonstrate corporate social responsibility.
