Firebirds Updates to End the Week

New Opportunities for Wake County Youth...AND MUDDY?!?!

So much stuff has happened in the past few days for the Firebirds! Let’s take a look at some highlights to close out the week:

Table of Contents

Partnership with National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI)

The Firebirds will be partnering with NAMI this upcoming season. NAMI is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. They are dedicated to building better lives for millions of Americans affected by mental illness.

The Wake County branch of NAMI will be sponsoring kids to attend our Health Awareness Game on March 8th. In addition, the Firebirds met with NAMI yesterday to discuss future programs to be implemented for the youth of Wake County. If you’re curious about the collaboration, tune into The Sports Shop Radio Show at 7:30 this morning! A member of NAMI will be live on the radio with Team Market Owner Wade Harris to discuss the partnership. You can find the audio here, or on 99.3 FM.

Raleigh Firebirds Youth Basketball Academy

Is your child serious about getting better at the game of basketball? If so, there’s no better place to turn than the Raleigh Firebirds Youth Basketball Academy! The academy is hosted by Firebirds players and coaches, which means your child will have the opportunity to improve the weaknesses in their game and become a better overall basketball player. Additionally, the Firebirds players will serve as mentors on and off the court for your child. The first event for the Academy is on January 20th, from 10 AM-12 PM. It will be hosted at 4400 Old Poole Rd. Email [email protected] to sign up today!

Extending Partnership with Carolina Mudcats

Yesterday, the Firebirds also had a meeting with the Carolina Mudcats to discuss their continuing partnership. During the Mudcats’ last season, they hosted many Firebirds players and organization members to attend a game, while also having assistant GM Chris Lightner throw out the first pitch! Not only will the Firebirds be back at Five County Stadium next season, but the Mudcats’ mascot, Muddy, will be in attendance at some Firebirds games! Muddy is one of the best mascots around, and trust me, you don’t want to miss out on meeting him.

To make sure you don’t, buy tickets here before they sell out!

I’ll talk to you guys on Monday, but before I sign off…

Correction:

On Wednesday, when I was writing about Brock Young, I made a small mistake in the top paragraph. Young did not take John Wall’s roster spot at Broughton; rather, Young had already solidified his roster spot by being the team’s best player for the past three years. It just so happened that Wall was cut because Head Coach Jeff Ferrel didn’t like his attitude. This is mentioned in a later paragraph, but the subtitle is misleading. I apologize for the error.
