Up to Anything This Weekend?

The Firebirds Have an Invitation for You 🔥

Good morning! This week, we inch one step closer to the Firebirds’ 2025 season. In particular, this weekend is important for putting together the Firebirds’ roster. Here’s why:

If you remember from a recent edition of Firebird Focus, the Firebirds have hired a new head coach, Antonio Davis. This weekend will be the first that Davis coaches Firebirds players, as the team has its first mini-camp. Mini Camps are a chance for Firebirds management to evaluate prospective players and current team members in a more informal setting before training camp roster invites are extended. It’s the first step for many players in their quest to play professional basketball, making mini camps high-stakes environments with a lot of excitement.

The Firebirds are hosting mini camp on September 12th and 13th at Abundant Life Christian Center (4400 Old Poole Rd). The Friday session will be from 7-9 PM, while the Saturday session will be from 11 AM-1 PM. Fans are welcomed and encouraged to attend, so we hope to see you there!

“We’re really excited to see him work. Coach Davis is a high energy guy and will be the perfect coach to take the mantle from our new Director of Basketball and Chief of Basketball Career Development Bob MacKinnon.”

Team Market Owner Wade Harris

That’s right, Coach MacKinnon isn’t leaving the Firebirds organization; he’s just leaving the bench and stepping into a front-office role. If you’re curious about what MacKinnon’s new role entails, you’re not alone…but unfortunately, that’s for another edition of Firebird Focus. Make sure to stay tuned for that next week and for an announcement about a Firebirds event that you’re invited to on Friday!

Until then,

-Tex
